Custom apps and web software for North Bay businesses, from a developer who built for San Francisco's best-known companies.
I spent twenty years building software for companies like Twitch, Hipmunk, and Bebo in San Francisco, and charity: water in New York. These days I run Nerd Tower from Petaluma, and the engineering that used to live an hour south is now up here in the North Bay.
Custom software can feel like a city thing. It isn’t. Petaluma’s first tech boom was the egg incubator, the machine that made this town the Egg Basket of the World, and we still throw a parade for butter and eggs every spring. Some of the shapes the newer kind of tech takes up here:
- A wine club membership card in Apple Wallet
- Reservations and pickup for a tasting room
- Wholesale orders for a farm or creamery
- An internal tool replacing the spreadsheet
- A customer app for a growing local brand
- A website that's outgrown whoever built it
The menu is the same one my city clients get: native iOS apps, web apps, existing products picked up and moved forward, and Apple Wallet passes, like the membership card your wine club members would carry in their pocket.
Being local matters when it matters. First meetings can happen over coffee in Petaluma instead of a video call, and when the project ships, the person who built it is still in town.
Most of my clients aren’t local, and everything I build serves customers worldwide. The difference up here is that you can sit across the table from me, at the first meeting and any week after.
And this is home: Nerd Tower has been a sponsor of LUMA Ice, Petaluma’s holiday ice rink at the fairgrounds.
